Integrated approach

Recently, a multidisciplinary team of more than 100 Mourik professionals successfully completed a major turnaround for our client Huntsman in the Botlek area. The scope covered industrial cleaning, emissions control and mechanical work, with all disciplines closely coordinated.

A tightly scheduled turnaround still requires the flexibility to respond quickly to the unexpected. This project was no exception. Extreme weather conditions and additional unplanned work called for fast decisions and a flexible approach.By combining specialist expertise, the right resources and direct communication across disciplines, the team was able to adapt safely and efficiently as circumstances changed.

Emissions control

A key part of the turnaround was controlling emissions during the cleaning activities. Mourik Milieutechniek designed and installed a complete temporary system, including a scrubber and wastewater treatment unit. This enabled air and water emissions to be effectively controlled and ensured that the work could be carried out safely and responsibly within the applicable environmental requirements.

Mourik Milieutechniek also designed and installed a temporary replacement for Huntsman’s main scrubber, which was taken out of service for inspection and maintenance during the turnaround.

Close collaboration with Huntsman was essential. From engineering and HAZOP studies to installation, commissioning and operational support, each step was carefully prepared and executed as one team. This enabled the production process to continue in a controlled manner while keeping downtime to a minimum.

For the first time at this site, Mourik was also responsible for the mechanical scope. The integration with the other disciplines went smoothly, with safety, quality and progress remaining key priorities throughout the turnaround.

This expansion of the scope further demonstrates the strength of Mourik’s multidisciplinary approach and provides valuable experience for future turnarounds.

This turnaround shows what can be achieved when client and contractor work together as one team. By combining specialist expertise with open communication, direct coordination and flexibility, a complex maintenance shutdown was completed safely and successfully.
