Maintenance on waterways in full swing
A number of structures on and over Dutch waterways, such as bridges, weirs and locks, have reached the end of their service life. In addition to routine upkeep and inspection work, the Mourik Infra division is carrying out major maintenance works on several of these waterway structures. This is a challenging task, one often involving historic structures that need to be restored to their original state in the most maintenance-friendly way possible.
Low water season, full steam ahead
The 2025 low water season has started and with it the launch of the various major maintenance projects. For example, we are busy with various locks and weirs in the Meuse river catchment area and the Princess Marijke lock complex near Tiel. We are also working on two serial projects on various bridges in the provinces of Zuid-Holland and Noord-Brabant.
In addition to routine upkeep, inspections, and major maintenance projects, we are also carrying out the necessary rehabilitation work, such as repairing the damaged lock gates at the Lith and Roermond lock complexes.
The strength of Mourik
In such complex projects, everything hinges on knowledge sharing and having a well-coordinated project team of people who complement each other. It demands people who work and think together to come up with solutions that will help meet the customer’s needs in the best way possible. This applies to both our own people and to the external specialists who, thanks to our many years of collaboration, we see as valuable and reliable partners.
At Mourik, the multidisciplinary nature of our organization contributes to the success of our projects. This is evident both in project preparation and implementation. For example, specialist and subsidiary Vogel is called in to handle damaged concrete, Mourik Industriebouw builds storage units for new cranes, and subsidiaries Protonna and Traffic & More take care of closing off roads and waterways. We also have the necessary expertise in house to handle the design and manufacture of unique steel structures.
Future projects
With our approach, we offer our customers a one-stop-shop where they can be sure that every aspect of such complex projects will be taken care of. And for complex situations, we willingly take on the challenge and look for a solution that helps not only now, but also provides certainty for the future.
Together with our customers, we will continue to work over the coming years to keep our impressive Dutch waterways safe and navigable for the 780,000 vessels that travel over them each year.
