UCLL climate engineering students on a site visit to St Francis Hospital

Article

Mourik recently welcomed climate engineering students from UCLL University of Applied Sciences to the construction site of the Sint-Franciscus Hospital in Heusden-Zolder. During this site visit, the students were introduced to the practical application of sustainable installation techniques within a complex hospital project.

Sustainable climate control technology in practice

The visit began with a presentation by our colleagues Michiel Droogmans and Joris Vandeput, who are closely involved in this project. Together with Michel Moonen, who liaises with UCLL, they took the students through the story behind the extension of Block G and explained how such installations are implemented in practice.

As part of this project, Mourik is fully committed to sustainable energy and innovative climate control technologies. We are moving away from fossil fuels and opting for geothermal energy and heat pumps. In this way, we are reducing emissions of harmful substances and decreasing our reliance on traditional energy sources.

To ensure a comfortable and healthy indoor climate, we are installing, amongst other things, climate ceilings, cooling beams and radiant panels. These systems ensure a stable temperature and good air quality. This is essential in a hospital environment, for both patients and staff.

From training to the construction site

The introduction was followed by a tour of the construction site. The students were able to see at close quarters how HVAC systems are installed and integrated into the building. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions about site organisation, the techniques used and the link between their course and real-world practice.

Through this site visit, Mourik is helping to develop technical talent. By introducing students to real-life site situations, we are strengthening the link between education and practice.
The visit to St Francis Hospital gave the students a practical insight into our approach and expertise in sustainable technical projects.
