The unexpected turn to Technician Environment

Patrick started his career at Mourik as a foreman in the asbestos department, but after a short time he was given the opportunity to take a new direction within Mourik. Soon he made the step to the position of technician environment in the environmental department. "In the beginning I was mainly a helping hand, but little by little I found my way," he says. Thanks to Mourik, he had the opportunity to obtain numerous training courses and certificates, including working with asbestos, working with loading and digging machines, forklift driver and rack inspection.

Today, Patrick works permanently at one of our construction sites. He says: "My day starts at half past six with checking the pressures of coal and sand filters. I also make sure products are always in stock and order them if necessary. Furthermore, I repair and provision things where necessary. At the end of the working day, I always do a round to check that everything is in order."

Patrick adds: "My job requires a lot of independence and alertness, because you often work alone. But that also makes it challenging and fascinating." Besides his work at Mourik, Patrick has a special passion: skating. "Ever since I was young, I've been into it. I often go to the City Park or Park Spoor Noord, and in summer I like to skate along the Scheldt Quays with music in my ears."
