Passing of Kees Jan Mourik
It is with great sadness that Mourik announces the passing of Kees Jan Mourik on 6 September 2026, at the age of 60.
For more than 33 years, Kees Jan dedicated himself wholeheartedly to our family business. Representing the third generation of the Mourik family, he served as CEO and Chairman of Mourik’s Executive Board for 13 years.
Kees Jan’s ambition was to continue building and strengthening Mourik and to proudly pass the company on to the next generation. He succeeded in doing so. Under his leadership, Mourik continued to grow into a strong and successful international family business, with a clear strategy, a solid financial foundation and more than 2,200 dedicated employees in the Netherlands, Belgium and beyond.
People make Mourik
Kees Jan always believed that Mourik’s strength lay in its people. He was proud of the craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit of Mourik’s employees and of the way colleagues support one another.
The Mourik family says: “We are immensely proud of everything Kees Jan has meant to Mourik. He devoted a significant part of his life to the family business and helped shape Mourik into the strong company it is today. He had great ambitions for Mourik, but never lost sight of what he believed truly mattered: the people. His commitment to them was genuine. That was who Kees Jan was, and that is how we hope he will be remembered. We will miss him deeply.”
Looking to the future with confidence
On 1 February 2026, Kees Jan handed over his role as CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board to Jan-Paul van den Bosch. He did so with confidence and pride in the strong company he was handing over. As a major shareholder and Chairman of STAK, he remained closely involved with Mourik and continued to dedicate himself to the continuity of the family business.
“Kees Jan’s commitment to Mourik was exceptional. He knew the company and its people like no one else and took a genuine interest in what was happening across the organisation and on our projects. Through his entrepreneurial spirit, commitment and people-focused approach to leadership, he gave Mourik a strong foundation for the future. I am grateful for everything he has done for Mourik and for the trust he placed in me to build on that foundation. In Kees Jan, we have lost a very special person, and we will miss him deeply,” says Jan-Paul van den Bosch.
A devoted family man
Above all, Kees Jan was a devoted family man. His wife, mother, sister, children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and aunt were very dear to him. They were his greatest source of love, pride and happiness. The time he spent with his family meant everything to him.
Kees Jan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. “It is difficult for us to comprehend that Kees Jan is no longer with us. We are deeply saddened, but also grateful that we were able to be with him until the very end. His battle is over, but the mark he left will remain - on our family, on Mourik and on the many people whose lives he touched.”
