Belgium's first-ever major green hydrogen production unit is being built in Zeebrugge: HyOffWind. This hydrogen plant, located on the Fluxys site, will run entirely on solar and wind energy, with no greenhouse gas emissions.

To power the plant, Elia is building a new high-voltage substation. Mourik has been commissioned to realise this high-voltage substation and started work on 17 February 2025. We are taking on the entire construction process, from demolition works and structural work to finishing and site layout. We are working to complete the structural works as soon as possible so that the electrical installations can start.

This is not our first project involving hydrogen. Earlier, we built Belgium's first public hydrogen station for Air Liquide in Zaventem. With this new project, we are taking another important step in energy transition.

The first production of green hydrogen is expected in the second half of 2026.
