Mourik Belgium launches safety culture programme

Article

At Mourik Belgium, our top priority is that all our colleagues start work safely and return home safely too. We often say it (and we are certainly not the only ones): we either do it safely or we don't. That is why we have launched a programme aimed at strengthening the safety culture. The goal? To build an environment in which safety is central, supported by everyone and continuously improved.

In collaboration with an external partner, a programme on safety culture was launched a year ago. The first step was a baseline measurement, which identified the existing strengths and areas for improvement. This analysis formed the starting point for a series of initiatives to help Mourik grow towards a more proactive safety approach.

Colleagues make the difference in our safety culture

So how do we move forward? An engaged steering committee guides the process in the right direction. Together with colleagues from different functions and departments, we start an interactive workshop. During this session, we create a clear overview of safety tasks and indicate who is responsible for what: the prevention department, project management and implementation.

Together, we look at what everyone in his or her function can do to improve safety. We have colleagues who are on site every day and put safety into practice. Their experience and insights are a great asset in this session. The workshop is the start of further actions, such as strong safety leadership and clear agreements on safe workplace behaviour. This is how we build a strong safety culture in line with our strategy to work with unrivalled safety.

What makes security different from all other topics? It is irreversible if it goes wrong.

Safety is not an end point, but a shared responsibility in which we continue to grow together. Thanks to the commitment of all our colleagues, we are taking steps towards a stronger safety culture. We connect people and insights, build a safe working environment and continuously improve based on what we learn. This is how we make safety a natural part of who we are and what we do - today, tomorrow and every day thereafter.
