Maxim Wouters (21), work preparator at Mourik, has been part of our construction department for a year now. He combines this work with his love of swimming, where he is not only active himself, but also trains others and livestreams competitions.
From school desks to workplace
Maxim: "I always had an interest in the construction industry. Both my grandfathers were in construction: one as a bricklayer and the other as a joiner. When I visited the SID-In fair at the end of high school, the choice for a construction training course was quickly made. So I did not follow a specific training for work planner."
Maxim eventually joined Mourik as a work preparator. He is responsible for drawing up order and framework contracts and planning deliveries. He also checks invoices, machines and equipment, and takes stock of them. "It's a challenging set of tasks that requires a lot of structured work and good planning. And you definitely have to be able to stand your ground."
A passion for swimming
Besides his role at Mourik, Maxim is also an avid swimmer at ShaRK swimming club. "I have been swimming since I was 4 years old. I started with local tournaments and later licensed for bigger and international competitions. In 2018 I won gold, silver and bronze in Dortmund, and in 2019 I won bronze with my team at the BK in the 4x100m freestyle."
Maxim now still swims in the pre-masters and has been teaching swimming lessons to youngsters aged between 9 and 18 since September 2021. "It's great to see your members' progress and help them improve their competitions," he said.
During the COVID period, Maxim accidentally got involved in livestreaming competitions for his swimming club. "It started with a simple stream via a mobile phone, but now we have an advanced setup with several cameras and televisions. I am also a cameraman for the Flemish Swimming Federation and the Royal Swimming Federation. This is how I filmed Thomas Dean, a British Olympic swimmer, among others."
Maxim greatly appreciates the family atmosphere at Mourik. "You're not a number here. That makes working at Mourik really enjoyable. I look forward to learning a lot more at Mourik and contributing to the team."
