Liz Maldonado: Financial Project Controller

Article

Liz Maldonado joined the Mourik team in January 2026 as a financial project controller in the industrial services division. Within the department, she is responsible for invoicing for industrial services and meticulously monitors project costs. “I’ve always been fascinated by figures and finance,” she says. “So I’m absolutely in my element here.”

From Ecuador to Belgium

Liz lives in Brecht, but her roots are in Ecuador. She has now been living in Belgium for over 30 years. “Actually, the plan was only to stay here for a year… but things clearly turned out differently,” she laughs.
Her husband, a trained painter, came to study in Antwerp. Liz followed him and eventually decided to stay here. “Belgium is a beautiful country with friendly people, so thankfully the culture shock wasn’t too bad.”
She obtained her degree in Ecuador, but she didn’t sit still. “I thought: if I’m here, I have to do something.” She studied Dutch at university, had her degree recognised, and took further courses on Belgian and European legislation, such as VAT returns and other financial regulations.
Incidentally, the passion for economics runs in the family. Her father was a professor in economics at the Catholic University of Ecuador, and her brother and sister also chose that path. “So it was in my blood from a young age.”

A warm welcome at Mourik

What has struck her most since she started at Mourik? The atmosphere. “I come to work every day feeling happy and with a smile on my face. My colleagues are friendly and really take the time to explain everything properly. That warm welcome has made me feel at home here very quickly.”

Outside of work, Liz enjoys life to the full. She and her husband love dancing salsa, merengue and cha-cha-cha. “We sometimes even organise parties with friends so we can dance together.”

Cooking is also a great passion of hers. In her kitchen, Belgian classics and Ecuadorian specialities come together. Colleagues have already had the chance to sample her homemade tortilla de patatas or banana cake.

In short, Liz is a wonderful addition to our industrial services department!
