Laurens Beckers started in September 2024 as a Project Engineer with our colleagues in Hasselt at Mourik Technics, who specialize in building technologies. During his electromechanics studies, he completed an internship at Mourik, which left such a positive impression that he decided to stay.

From High School to Project Engineer

During his high school years, Laurens followed an academic (ASO) track, but he found himself increasingly drawn to the technical field. “I realized I preferred a more hands-on approach, so I chose to study electromechanics at university,” he shares. The first year of the program was broad, but Laurens decided to specialize in climate control. “In this field, you learn everything about heating, cooling, air conditioning, and ventilation. You’re trained to design, optimize, and maintain these types of systems.”

It was during these studies that Laurens first came into contact with Mourik Technics, thanks to a site visit to one of our projects. “Shortly after, I had the opportunity to do an internship with Mourik Technics. I worked with the team for three months and learned a tremendous amount about the field during that time.”

In his role as a Project Engineer, Laurens has a broad and challenging range of responsibilities. “I’m responsible for project engineering, making purchases and orders, and supervising worksites,” he explains. He splits his time between project sites and the office, ensuring no two days are the same. “The variety of projects and different clients make the work dynamic.” Just like during his internship, Laurens can always turn to his colleagues with questions. “There’s plenty of room for personal growth and development.”

Adventures Outside of Work

Outside of work, Laurens loves adventure. He enjoys traveling and camping, often exploring with his jeep. One of his favorite trips was a three-week journey through Sweden with friends and three jeeps. Norway is also familiar territory for Laurens. “I love the sense of freedom and adventure, and I often try wild camping during these trips.” For Laurens, every trip brings new challenges and unforgettable memories. “I look forward to more adventures in the future, both in nature and at work.”
