Waste processor AVR in Duiven converts residual waste into energy and raw materials. Approximately 70% of this waste comes from businesses, while the rest originates from households. These waste streams are used for energy generation and resource recovery. Additionally, CO₂ is captured and supplied to the greenhouse horticulture sector.

Energy production

The heat released during the incineration of residual waste is converted into steam.
This steam is then converted into electricity through multiple steam turbines. Part of the steam is extracted midway through the turbine and directed to several heat exchangers to maintain the temperature of the district heating network. The remaining steam continues through the entire turbine to generate electricity. After the turbine, the steam is condensed so it can be reused as boiler feedwater (a closed-loop system). Air coolers are used for this condensation step.

Drycleaning

Collaboration

Kasper van der Veen, Production Manager at AVR Duiven, explains why he engages MCO-Team to clean the air coolers: “By keeping the air coolers clean, we maintain their cooling capacity, which in turn keeps the capacity of the steam turbines at the desired level. This allows us to convert residual waste into electricity as efficiently as possible.”

“We've found that the air coolers perform optimally when cleaned four to five times a year. We prefer to do this during off-peak hours, when outdoor temperatures are low. For us, the combination of quality and flexibility that MCO-Team offers is essential. They work independently, safely, and know exactly what they’re doing. We’re very pleased with the collaboration.”

The quality and flexibility that MCO-Team provides are essential to us. The collaboration has been excellent.

Thorough Cleaning and Reduced Energy Consumption
MCO-Team uses a special dry cleaning technique to clean the air coolers. A gentle stream of bicarbonate is used to remove dirt from the cooling elements and the spaces between the fins. This thorough cleaning improves airflow and increases cooling capacity, which in turn reduces the energy consumption of the air coolers. A great sustainable result!
