At Mourik, we deploy weekly as house contractor for industrial cleaning at INEOS Inovyn at their site in the port of Antwerp. Besides tank maintenance, we actively seek innovative solutions to make processes more efficient and safer. Recently, we proved this again when maintaining a tank, where our teamwork led to a smart approach: hot tapping.
Weekly tank maintenance with a focus on efficiency
INEOS Inovyn relies on Mourik to clean three tanks, one of which even gets a thorough cleaning twice a week - on Mondays and Fridays. During these maintenance moments, we use a suction truck to remove the sludge that accumulates. The process is as follows: the driver connects a hose, opens the valve, and the sludge is collected in a chute and sucked up.
During one of these routine checks, we discovered a damaged valve. Thanks to quick cooperation within our cleaning team, we found a solution that minimised plant downtime: hot tapping.
Hot Tapping: fast and safe maintenanc
When replacing a valve, it is normally necessary to depressurise an installation, which causes downtime. With hot tapping, the installation remains operational as the tank can remain pressurised. This makes the process safer, faster and more efficient.
Working with Dutch company De Vin-Pass, which specialises in hot tapping, the customer decided to have three hot taps installed in one tank. This approach ensures greater efficiency and less disruption to production processes. The result? A solution that saves both time and costs.

At Mourik, we always think along with our customers and use our expertise to tackle challenges. The project at INEOS Inovyn shows how we use innovative solutions, such as hot tapping, to contribute to more efficient maintenance and higher customer satisfaction.
