At Mourik, we consider honesty and integrity on the job routine. Because, ultimately, everyone should feel safe in the workplace. To ensure we deliver on our promises, we ensure that behavior can be addressed. With a clear code of conduct and an independent app that colleagues can use to confidentially contact a counselor.

Clarifying how we should behave around each other

‘We find it important that people have the courage to address other people’s behavior’, says Judith van Ooijen-de Kock, a legal expert and counselor at Mourik. ‘But this only works if you know what is expected from you.’ That is why we have laid down our way of working in a clear code of conduct. We share it with our colleagues, but also with our suppliers. ‘There is nothing groundbreaking in it,’ says Judith. ‘It merely enshrines our current practices, how we already work with each other. But by putting it on paper, behavior becomes easier to address.’

This awareness is also reflected in the workshops that Mourik provides. ‘It's not just about having a code of conduct,’ Judith explains. ‘You need to talk about it regularly to make sure your code of conduct is put into practice, every day. We do this in workshops and toolbox meetings.’

Reporting made easy thanks to an independent app

In addition to the code of conduct, we also have persons of trust at Mourik. We are constantly working on this. We have launched the Report App, an independent app from a third party. This allows anyone at Mourik to confidentially contact a trusted counselor on their own phone, iPad or other device. ‘We are happy with this independent app,’ says Judith. ‘Mourik does not have access to it. This shows we take complaints seriously and that we are compliant as a company.’

Mourik now has eight internal persons of trust and one external trusted counselor. Every year, we check whether that is enough and whether they are still the right person for the job. Judith adds, ‘I am pleased to see that awareness has increased. We are investing in social safety, with the support of the entire organization.’

Judith says, ‘My motivation? Continue to professionalize everything. Persons of trust are becoming increasingly important in organizations. You want people to know that if they want to tell you something, they can do so safely.

‘I am pleased to see that awareness has increased. We are investing in social safety, with the support of the entire organization.’
