Start product plastic to end product oil. Zoom out to the complete plant that extracts the oil form the plastic.
For the first time, a recycling plant has succeeded in extracting pure circular oil from waste plastic. The oil is so pure that it can be used immediately for industrial use.
The oil is made in a plastic-to-oil installation. An initiative of Petrogas and BlueAlp, both subsidiaries of technical services provider Mourik. Together with consortium partners Den Hartog (fuel supplier) and the Belgian recycling company Renasci, a start was made on the construction of the installation in Ostend last September. Led by Petrogas Chief Technology Officer Chris van der Ree, a team of engineers collected the first liters of pure circular oil in the storage tanks last week.
‘We have spent more than 10 years developing and refining this innovative process, so the fact that we produced the first oil today is a spectacular milestone. Not only for our companies and partners, but above all for the contribution this will make to a sustainable world’, says Chris van der Ree.
In the coming period, the process will be optimized and the broad spectrum of products that this factory can produce will be explored. Circular oil is a growth market, as many multinationals have included in their sustainability programs to switch from fossil fuels to circular.

Mourik offers clients in the public and private sector a multidisciplinary package as a total solution. The company, with headquarters in Groot-Ammers, is led by CEO Kees Jan Mourik.
